A Friend Of Mine Found A Savings Bond In A Box Belonging To Her Father?

it is dated 12/15/1840 and she said her father had it in a box for 25 years. her father passed away recently and she found the box and opened it; that was when she found the bond. the bond amount, in 1840, was $1000. is there a website where can see if:
1. the bond is authentic?
2. the face value of the bond right now?

    This is odd.
When I Google “savings bond from 1840″ there are quite a few other people asking the same question:

I hope that the government at least give you the face value. I have a cold inkling that due to some kind of statue of limitations, the government probably won’t honor it. But I don’t know of a site that could give you updated information on it other the some kind of savings bond site.
