Can I Open Up My Ing Savings Account Already?

I just opened up my Wachovia Student Checking this morning and I want to connect it tot he ING Savings. However, when I check online it says I have no balance and the financial assistant at Wachovia said it wouldn’t clear until Monday. Does this mean I can’t open up my ING until the deposit goes through or can I set it up already and than deposit into ING on Monday?
