Does Anyone Remember, Way Back In The Early 60′s, That Grade Schools Let Kids Start Savings Accts?

i remember we’d bring so many dimes to school every wednesday, and we each had bank books, i just thought of it this morning as i was reading about washington mutual’s troubles. that was the bank the school kept our savings in…i guess schools don’t do that any longer, do they?

    That is so adorable…
Now we give them box tops from sugar inflicted cereals I wont allow them to eat except when they go to grandma’s house.

Kind of…in the early 70′s everybody (well not everybody) had a canning jar in the teacher’s closet that we could deposit into. Like piggybanks…there was a little slot cut in the cap and the caps were glued to the jar. Like Celeste, those savings earned me nothing more than a few packages of Now & Laters* from the candy store across the street from school.

You know what, we did that in the early 70′s too! I remember thinking I was so bad *** with my little bank book!!
Too bad that early lesson in saving did not apparently carry over into my adult life, because I don’t have two freaking nickels to rub together!

No, but I saw the episode of “Leave it To Beaver” where the Beaver (not Celeste) uses his school bank acct. money to buy his dad a new hunting jacket…
    What a tear-jerker.
