If your account used for direct deposit of the latest refund is now closed the bank will send the money back and the IRS will issue a check and send that to the address on the 2007 tax year return.
If the account that your refund was sent to is now closed, the ACH transmission from the IRS will be rejected by your bank unless you can make arrangements with your bank to divert it to another account. Some banks may do that for a fee but many will not.
If your rebate is rejected it will be returned to the IRS who will then re-flow your rebate for payment by check and mailed to the address on your 2007 tax return. This will delay your rebate by about 4 weeks or so.
From my banking experience,if they try to deposit your electronic ck into your account and it is closed the system will automatically send it back to the company that sent it to you. They will turn around and write you out a paper check and put it in the mail to you. This process prolongs you receiving your check by about 4-6 weeks. Maybe you can talk to your banker and see if they can get your account reopened. Sometimes they can it just depends on their system.
My daughter encoded her account number wrong by 1 number and it took her 4-5 weeks to get her ck in the mail. Yeah, I know its a bummer…..hope this helps…
This question is answered on the IRS website…Q. If I use Direct Deposit for my tax return refund and my bank account information later changes, what will happen when my Stimulus Payment goes out?
A. Typically, the Direct Deposit will be rejected. After the IRS receives a rejection notice, the payment will be converted to a paper check and mailed to you.
So this will delay your rebate check…but you will still get one. You can call the bank and see if they will reopen the account for you so you can recieve the rebate…if you don’t owe money on the account it might be a possibility.
If your original return went into your savings account, yes your rebate will go there also. If it went into your now closed checking account, you’ll get a paper check in the mail.
No your savings acct. has different routing numbers. You will probably have to waite longer and get a paper check.
Mine should be here Monday! wOOt
no they go by account numbers, you’ll probably get a check in the mail or a letter saying the acct is closed.
