I would think that by my account balance being displayed in the receipt that the bank gives would be giving away my private info. If it is illegal or wrong what can I do it I find out its happening or has happened.

At my bank if you give someone your account number so they can deposit, the deposit is made & receipt is given with number blacked out. If they want to make a deposit & don;t have your account number then we have looked it up, and mailed the receipt to the customer. NO account information is ever given out to an unauthorized person. Obviously if they come in with your account number which YOU gave them then they already have that info but they have no business being given your balance unless they are a signer on the account. It is illegal, & a violation of the privacy act we have in place as well as bank secrecy. If you allow someone to make an atm deposit using your card a balance will show on the receipt & that would be your own responsibility.
If the banks policy is to display the balance on the receipt, then you really have no control. Most banks typically ask for an ID before making a transaction and some won’t allow deposits from people not listed on the account. I know that larger banks don’t ask for identification but then again, they don’t put the balance on the receipts as a policy.
Well, first of all, it can only happen if you ask someone else to make deposit for you, or let someone else know your account number. It is not illegal, but it is invasion of your privacy. You can only complain to the bank about it…but if someone make deposit for you and not mention to the tellers that is not their accounts, how can tellers know?!
Recently i did put money for one of my friends bank account and in the deposit slip which the teller gave me she marked the balance amount in black marker so that i cannot see the balance.
I really appreciated the way the bank works in maintaining customer privacy.
Hi,
I WOULD BE SO ANGRY, if a bank put my balance on a deposit slip. I have checked with a friend of mine who is a bank manager, she said no it is something that should not happen. It is a breach of confidendialty, and was not impressed when I told her what happened.
Kind Regards.
i deposit money for my husband, if teller does not know me, i cannot get the balance. yes, i think it is illegal. or it should be!
Just go talk to the bank and let them know that whatever teller is giving out your balance (if they are) doesn’t need to do that anymore TO ANYONE! I dont know if its illegal but there is definitely a red flag!
The deposit slip will show the deposited amount, not your balance. If you call your bank they will tell you the same thing.
Cheers!
Yes, they should not disclose your balance.
go call the bank many work till late letthem know ………..
Why trust anybody to put money in for you?
It is always pleasure to read your blog, will back here soon
