I was told by another Scion XB owner that he now gets 60mpg by doing this

I like Bosch Platinum 4 spark plugs. They are expensive but do not require indexing due to the four electrodes. Magnesium is a highly reactive metal and poorly suited for spark plug duty. Any non hybrid vehicle, that I know of, is not capable of 60 mpg. Thus, I believe the statements made to you are either inaccurate or were misinterpreted.
That guy is full of crap because the only cars that get that are hybrid cars. The reason you would want to install them is because they are a better part and resists fouling better giving you a better burn. oh also if he is using magnesium he must like lighting up the inside of his engine.
Not likely! If so, then why didn’t the manufacturer install them in all the new cars?
I think he may be mistaken. He may have meant Iridium spark plugs. Upping the gas mileage to 60? I find that a little outrageous, but who knows for sure. You would have to try it yourself and find out.
People like to brag about their supposed fuel economy. There’s no way in hell that little shoebox can get 60 mpg. Also, there’s no such thing as a magnesium spark plug>
the type of spark plug installed will affect your engines fuel economy, but not by that much, I would say the other owner had an engine tune up at the same time resulting in better enging performance and fuel economy to get the extra milage they are boasting about.
Magnesium? He is smoking crack! Maybe talking about Platinum plugs and they come from factory that way. And also he is a lier if he gets 60 MPG on that Yuppie Mobile. As best a Hybrid might be able do that. A VW TDI does 45 MPG and that is sucking very little fuel. Beside Mg is a metal that burns like a Roman Candle, so is not even the right material to make a spark plug. You could use Mg to start a camp fire.

Just Spark Plugs alone does very little on fuel economy and performance. A well maintained car will do wonders.
For a person that claims 60 MPG, sure Magnesium will do the trick. If you can find them like the 60 MPG car
