I can save $150.00 on a flight by flying into Providence instead of Logan. My destination is Boston. Is flying to Providence worth it? Thanks!

Not really.
If you’re trying to save on airfare (and I assume you must be thinking of going through Providence so you can get a flight on Southwest), then you’re better off flying Southwest into Manchester, New Hampshire.
Manchester and Providence are both about the same distance from Boston (Manchester is 60 miles north, Providence is 60 miles south) but getting to Boston is a lot easier, cheaper (and quicker) from Manchester. This is because there’s a free shuttle bus that runs between Manchester Airport and the Sullivan Square subway station which is a 5-minute ride into downtown Boston. The shuttle is free for ticketed passengers flying into (or out of) MHT and it runs every two hours, around the clock. Just google “Manchester Boston Regional Airport Shuttle” for info.
Going through Providence, you’d have to get a bus or taxi from the airport to the commuter rail station downtown, and then hop the commuter rail. It’ll cost you close to $10 for all of this, whereas the Manchester shuttle costs nothing and runs nonstop from the MHT Airport Terminal to Sully Square (although granted ,you are at the mercy of traffic unlike with the commuter rail).
Otherwise I wouldn’t recommend going through Providence; it’s just not worth it.
BTW, you know you can always look for a low-budget airline that flies into Logan. I realize that Southwest doesn’t, but other cheap carriers do, like AirTran and Jet Blue.
Happy travels.
Do NOT rent a car to drive into Boston from Providence. It’s totally easy to get to city limits, but if you’re not from there you’ll get really lost once you’re in the city. Most neverlost and other gps technology hasn’t been fully updated for the big dig and roads still get shut down a lot.
If you take a cab from the RI airport to the commuter rail, it will cost about 20 with tip and baggage charge (so that’s 40) plus the cost of the t each way (about another 10-15). So you’ll spend about 50 and save 100. Plus an hour or so on the commuter rail.
I think flying to Logan is easiest.
Hi! I usually fly into Providence airport because it’s a lot smaller than Logan. It’s a lot easier to move around. Logan is HUGE and always crowded. So much traffic in Boston! I definitely would recommend flying out of Providence instead. Hm…from Providence to Boston will take you about an hour or so. So try to figure out cab expenses. You’ll still definitely save with going to Providence either way.
Keeping in mind that Providence is about an hour from Boston, I would definitely say yes if you have a way to get to Boston. It is certainly less hectic. If you are renting a car, definitely. And it is an easy drive up 95.
umm..maybe……it depends on how then you would get to boston….if you are driving yourself with a friends car then sure because the gas wont cost 150 to go to boston…if it is a rental car then dont do it….and im not sure about taxi’s or buses
Actually a better idea is to fly into Manchester airport in NH. I do it all the time and save so much money because of it.
