I like the idea of putting at least 10 in. If you can do more do it, but make it a habit of putting at least 10 in.

    The “standard” I’m familiar with is for Retirement savings – 15%, other savings (to buy a car, etc) just depends on the item.

    like 20 to 30 percent. enough to get by in case you lose your job

    25% at least. If you cannot do it, then either you spend too much or you are not making enough.

    It used to be said, “pay yourself first” by putting at least 10% of your net paycheck into savings, but if you can afford to put in more…do it!
